Driven by the driving force of lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Mikael Γ kerfeldt, Opeth has become one of the most successful Swedish metal bands of all time. On their 9th studio album, "Watershed," they combine death metal elements with a progressive structured sound, which was acclaimed by fans and critics alike, not least because of the brilliant transitions between slow melodic parts and dark heavy riffs. Mikael Γ kerfeldt's vocals, which have noticeably matured over the years, alternating between folky-clean parts and intense death growls, also contribute to the success of the album.
The included songs offer the absolute extremes of powerful guitar and drum-driven sounds, to dreamy keyboard and synthesizer sounds, with a wall of guitar riffs and fast drums creating a depressing and doomish atmosphere in the more brutal tracks.
"Watershed" is one of the strongest and most impressive albums in Opeth's entire catalog. The LP version has been given an additional track, 'Derelict Herds,' from the beginning, compared to the CD version.
