by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (29.09.2006) Polished Soft Rock with senior keyboards for little girls? Frustrated musicians in their midlife-crisis who desperately try to stick to their success of long forgotten days with their old sound? Forget it! Already "Start from the dark" was a clear statement: Europe do not rest on their old laurels. The second album of this century in the original line-up turns out to be quite rough in the opening title track. Afterwards, you get a great balance of heavy, killer-riffs-orientated rockers ("Always the pretenders", "Love is not the enemy", "The getaway plan") and sensible compositions with depth written by Joey Tempest and keyboarder Mic Michaeli ("Wish I could believe", "Forever travelling"). Centre of the album are the perfect vocal lines presenting Joey with as many faces as John Norum does in his wide stylistic range of guitar solos. Further highlights are "Let the children play" with its school choir and the epic "Devil sings the Blues" with its great solo battle. Modern but traditional!
