'Okemah Rising' is the second part of the Woody Guthrie/Dropkick Murphys collaboration. While the goal of 'This Machine Still Kills Fascists' was to raise awareness, 'Okemah Rising' aims to get the party going. Sure, there may be one or two tender moments, but overall, the focus here is on the party.
Even a party record can have a message - the band experienced this when Dropkick Murphys played the 'Okemah Rising' songs 'Gotta Get to Peekskill' and 'I Know How It Feels' to thousands of fans during their Germany Tour. Every night, when the audience sings along to Woody's words, his unwavering defense of the working class and his fight against social injustice and the abuse of political power come across loud and clear. As long as there are Dropkick Murphys, Woody's values will be heard: the defense of the working class, the fight against social injustice, and the abuse of political power.
