The stylistic fireworks of MORNE's dark, extreme, but accessible metal didn't happen overnight. Since their debut album Untold Wait in 2009, the four musicians from Boston have ridiculed simplistic categorizations, and their latest and fifth album, Engraved With Pain, refines their attack to a level that even the 2018 album To the Night Unknown could only hint at.
For MORNE, Engraved With Pain is a moment of dark triumph rooted in Celtic Frost as much as Ministry, but somehow extrapolated from the gods themselves, Black Sabbath, and no one is as characteristic of it as they are. A document that speaks directly to future historians who will look back and wonder where the hell everything went so wrong.
