by Björn Thorsten Jaschinski (15.02.2008) Already with their debut album, "Mystic places of dawn", the Greeks illustrated their lyrical travel into the antique times with all sorts of musical counterparts. Septic Flesh tasted the high of speed and guttural vocals as they did with enchanting, clear chants and very calm, introverted passages. Since the return of their old guitarist, Chris, who studied classical music in London, such motives have increased until they first vanished completely on "Revolution DNA", and on the last album so far, "Sumerian daemons" encountered sparse, cold sounds with even greater brutality. "Communion", the first sign of life after several years of break, features all characteristic trademarks of the band. Seth grunts, Sotiris sings softly, the song writing meanders between heavy Death Metal-attacks, smooth Dark Metal ("Sunlight moonlight"), neo-classical (dis-)harmonies of the Prague Symphonic Orchestra and elegantly, heavy choir bombast. Also lyrically, "Narcissus" picks up "Narcissism" from the second album, "Esoptron", yet, puts it musically in a Paradise Lost-Gothic-Metal-surrounding.
