"Carpe diem" LP black by Saxon
Article description
The legend comes with immense power and full roar.... Saxon will release their new studio album 'Carpe Diem' on February 4, 2022, via Silver Lining Music, now the 23rd album of the iconic British Heavy Metal band.
10 hammer-hard tracks that are bursting with steel-hard riffs and power and come across as extremely proud. Of course, with exactly the ingredients that define Saxon and their long career, and it can be said that this album is the most dynamic in years.
'Everything begins with the riff,' says frontman and co-founder Biff Byford, 'when the riff appeals to me, we're on a good path. It's a very intense album and it focuses on the fact that a great metal song starts with a very good riff, and this album has a lot of them.'
The title track shows Saxon in pure form - determined and resolute. The metal flag is held high aggressively, passionately showing old and new fans alike that sticking together is essential and that Saxon and the genre itself must be celebrated.
'The Latin 'Carpe Diem' is well known to everyone, and 'Seize the Day' is something that you should say and do more often,' Biff continues. 'The Roman poet Horace wrote this famous phrase in one of his poems in 23 BC to this day. Don't postpone anything until tomorrow! And as soon as it is possible again, we will go on the 'Seize the Day World Tour' with the album. There is a lot of power in the expression 'Carpe Diem'!'
Produced by Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Exodus, Accept, and currently Priest guitarist) at the Backstage Recording Studios in Derbyshire, UK. Byford and Sneap were responsible for mixing and mastering. 'Carpe Diem' makes you sit up and take notice and is one of the essential British metal statements of recent years. The album has everything you want to hear: speed, great riffs, and everything with the right bite that ignites the joy of the loyal followers even more, but will also find a legion of new Saxon fans.
'Of course, we want every album to reach platinum status,' says Biff, a little defiantly. 'We never make albums that we don't expect to be fantastic because we do not rest on our laurels. We always try to do something new - something a bit more daring. I love fast metal like 'Princess of the Night' and '20,000 Feet,' and I try to bring the Saxon style into the music - but in a more modern way. We don't sound like an old band, and we always try to produce a great album.'
'The fiery intensity of 'Carpe Diem' is largely due to two extreme life situations: it was two difficult years,' says Biff, with great understatement. 'I had a heart attack in September 2019, and that already didn't go well for the band, and three months later, Covid came. Fortunately, we had already started writing and recording for the new album. We recorded the drums in Germany, the guitar parts at different locations. I wrote a lot during my hospital stay, and then we arranged and put together all the ideas we had. I think, due to the circumstances, it became a very intense album, and maybe this intensity also comes from the frustration that you couldn't do anything during the lockdown-Covid period.'
