14.Words darker than their wings
by Peter Kupfer (24.09.2010) Yes, the music‘s got guitar solos. Yes, it‘s slightly phallic. Moreover, sometimes it‘s old-fashioned. Who cares? This album is 200% Rock and that‘s fine. Music how it‘s made! No more but also nothing less. With their third record “AB III“ Alter Bridge are more rock than ever. In their songs chattering guitars, hard breaks, a wild rolling bass and firing drum rolls pitch, push and whip. The vocals of Myles Kennedy are ear-percing. This album is most certainly the album that can do it: great songs and melodies played by a band that have found instant chemistry and have unbelievable talent. The unbelievable technical skills of guitarist Mike Tremonti run like a red thread through the whole record. “Words darker than their wings“ is surely the best proof. In contrast, songs like “All hope is gone“ demonstrates the softer side of these 14 brilliant songs. All songs are varied, harmonious, sophisticated and a revelation. We have not had a great deal of music in recent times. This is definitely the salvation. Those who misjudge this, disregard best Rock music!
