We promise there’s plenty of Satisfaction on offer in our Rolling Stones albums shop…
Ah. The Rolling Stones. They aren’t just ‘a’ rock and roll band, they are ‘the’ rock and roll band. They are, perhaps still, rock and roll itself. By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. They were the chalk to the Beatles’ cheese. Whereas the boys from Merseyside were bouncy and melodic, the Stones were busy thrashing out the bluesy, gritty, hard-driving rock that would define the sound of the 60s – and beyond.
The Rolling Stones was fronted by the ultimate preening, machismo rockstar Mick Jagger. Keith Richards and Brian Jones together wrote the blueprint for the sound of riffs and interlocking, sinewy guitars. Backed by the strong yet subtly swinging rhythm section of bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts, the Stones became the breakout band of the British blues scene – and became rock icons. After a brief dalliance with psychedelia, the Stones re-emerged in the late '60s as a jaded, blues-soaked hard rock quintet. They had always flirted with the seedy side of rock & roll, but as the hippie dream began to break apart, they thrived and thrashed in the new rock culture. And once they carved a place for themselves, they never really stopped.
For the next 50-plus years, they continued to record and perform, and while some of their later albums never succeeded their early glories – like Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers – but how could they, really? These albums changed the world. Rather than compete with themselves, they committed to a steady output keeping themselves visible and important to a generation of rockers.
You can rediscover the Stones in all their glory through our Rolling Stones albums, collector’s edition re-releases and other box sets. The Rolling Stones albums get an amazing re-release along with art books and notes of interest with the ‘A Bigger Bang’ set – a perfect stocking filler or gift for any Stones fan. Other Rolling Stones albums given the special treatment include the likes of Tattoo You, remastered and re-released, Living in a Ghosttown and Sucking in the Seventies.
Whether you’ve got a specific Stones album that holds a special place in your heart – was it the first time you heard Jagger’s throaty, gnarling vocals? Did you spend the night rocking out to Sympathy for the Devil? – or you’re just looking to celebrate the band’s legacy, there’s no better place to start than in our Rolling Stones shop. Once you’ve picked out your albums, we’ve got plenty of other official Stones merch, from clothing to posters.
